初二上册  Module 2 Unit 2

Have you ever had … a fantastic experience?

大连开发区第七中学 杨洋

I. Lead-in

Hi, everybody! Do you still remember me? Yesterday I told you a story about my name, so you can call me … Shall we begin our class? Please turn back to say hello to the other teachers in our class and show your smiling faces.

II. Presentation

  1. You know I’m from Dalian. DL is a beautiful seaside city. What do you know about DL? Have you ever been to DL? Have you ever been to another city? Have you ever been abroad? I mean, “Have you ever been to another country?”

   abroad   adv.

   have been to…

  2. I’ve ever been abroad. Can you guess which country I have been to? Please guess by asking, “Have you ever been to…?”

  3. Traveling in England is a fantastic experience.

   fantastic   adj.

This is a class. Your teacher is a teacher. And I’m sure you’re students. (Quite good)

III. Reading

  1. Pre-reading

Traveling in England is a experience. What do you think a experience is? I think singing is a experience. What about you?

  2. While reading

  Read for the first time

Some of my friends have had some fantastic experiences. Would you like to share with me? After reading the whole passage, please tell me how many friends I have and what experiences they have. Read the passage quickly and silently.

How many friends have I got?

What experiences have they got?

From here we can see, the answers are all the first sentence of each paragraph. We call them topic sentences. Usually they are at the beginning or at the end of a paragraph or a passage. Sometimes they are in the middle. When you read a passage, try to find out the topic sentences to help you understand the passage better.

Read for the second time

From their experiences, we have really shared a lot. Now let’s read for details and then fill in the table.

For example, let’s read about Wei Ming quickly and silently.

What has Wei Ming done?

Where has she been?

When do they go?

Why can they fly to different places?

How does she feel?

We needn’t write down the whole sentence, just give out the key words. There are still four of my friends left. Read about them silently and fill in the table.

Paragraph 2: Chinatown: What do you know about Chinatown? Most people who live there are Chinese. The first Chinatown was built in Ming Dynasty. Chinatown in San Francisco is the second largest one in America. The largest one is in New York.

P3: western

Have you ever tried western food? What food have you tried? What do you think of it?

Is there any sentence you like very much in this paragraph? Why do you like it?

I like, “Pizza has always been my favourite food.” I think it can express the feeling, that is I like pizza for a long time. So I can say, “Hot pot has always been my favourite food. But I don’t like KFC or MacDonald---they’re junk food.” What’s your faourite food? Say to your partner first.

P4: Whatever, remember to eat for health. When we eat in restaurants, we can usually hear some music. It’s soft, slow and beautiful. You eat slowly and eat more and more, but when we eat in KFC or in MacDonald, the music is usually very fast. So we eat fast and quickly go away. Music can influence people. Do you like music? Do you like Liu Huan? What has Wang Ming done? How does he feel

   Sell ---sold

      ---sell out

P5: How unlucky I am, but there’s a lucky girl called He Meifeng. Why is she lucky? Where did she meet Zhang Ziyi? Why has she seen the film? How does she feel?

From my friends’ writings, we know when we write about our experiences, we’d better introduce 5wh and 1how. When we talk about “what”, don’t forget to use have/has done…

Now according to the key words on the screen choose one paragraph to retell. For example, “Wei Ming has been all over China. She has been to different places on holidays because her father is an Air China captain. Her favourite place is Mount Tai. She also likes the beaches in Sanya. But she’s never been to Shanghai.” First practice by yourselves.

Read for the third time

After reading the whole passage, which paragraph do you like best? Then read for us with feelings. For example, …

Thank you for sharing with me. I’m really happy now. there’re some words I like best. In the first paragraph, I like, “…so they fly to different places for holidays.” Who does “they” refer to? In the second paragraph, I like, “His grandparents live there and he visits them every Spring Festival.” Where does “there” refer to? And who does “them” refer to? How can we know who or where these words refer to? You can answer in Chinese. Why do we use them? (to make our passage simple and avoid repeating names or places again and again) So when we write about our experiences, don’t forget to use them.

IV. Practice

After enjoying my friends’ experiences, it’s your turn. You can see there are so many kind, beautiful, handsome teachers in the room, and also there are your good classmates in the room. I’m sure they have a lot of fantastic experiences. Interview the teachers or your classmates. Ask about 5wh and 1how. Don’t forget to use have/has done…and the words on the screen to help you. And then report their experiences to us with feelings.

V. Homework

I’m glad to share so many great experiences. So your homework is to share your experiences with me. You can email me. My email address is yangyangyang1979@163.com. Your compositions are welcomed.

VI. Ending

How time flies! Sharing makes time go faster, because it can double the happiness and reduce the pain. So please enjoy sharing with others. It’s my great honor to be with you. Thank you for your help. Thank you for your kindness. Bye-bye!
